Noramac Ventures Inc. (joint venture of North American Construction Group(NACG) and Fort McKay First Nations), was responsible for the complete design-build of a grassroots, 2,300 x 45 meter hard surface runway, complete with associated taxiways and aprons, a 150 person terminal building and four bay equipment storage facility. Runway design included two instrument landing approaches and required NAV Canada approval. The project was completed in record time, taking just under 12 months from the design stage through to the first aircraft landing. [Read more]
North American Construction Group (NACG) was contracted by Syncrude Canada Ltd. for various aspects of work at their Base Plant and Aurora mine site. Construction Work Authorizations (CWAs) are issued for each piece of work required and are normally completed on an hourly basis utilizing numerous types of equipment and manpower. [Read more]
Syncrude Aurora’s first production train opened in July 2000.NACG’s role in this project included all initial site dewatering, clearing, timber salvage, mine development (18 million cubic meters of material), tailings dyke construction (7 million cubic meters of material), plant site rough and final grading, access road construction and piling. All work was completed in a green field environment working as a team with the owner’s representatives. [Read more]
Syncrude Aurora’s Train 2 began operation in late 2003. North American Construction Group’s (NACG’s) role in this project included the installation of all underground utilities, site grading, materials handling and mine preparation earthworks. In addition, NACG handled the construction management of the structural concrete subcontractors. This project was performed as an Alliance partnership with a risk/reward program based on the total project cost, which included owners, engineers and all contractors’ costs. [Read more]
The Upgrader Expansion project (UE-1) was a major expansion of Syncrude’s oil sands facility undertaken to increase capacity to 350,000 barrels per day. North American Construction Group (NACG) provided construction management services and supplied personnel and equipment for the project’s deep undergrounds, piling and site grading. Suncor Energy Inc.’s MNU Project involves the construction of a Hydrotreater Plant (Plant 64), a Hydrogen Plant (Plant 66) and a series of pipe racks that tie the new plants to the existing ones. NACG’s scope of work includes site grading and road works, installation of deep and shallow undergrounds, piling, foundations, grounding and concrete pavement. [Read more]
Suncor Energy Inc.’s Voyageur Project is a combination of 10 different project area plans that will complete the strategy to double the size of Suncor’s Fort McMurray oil sands operations to a peak production of between 500,000 and 550,000 barrels per day between 2011 and 2012. This includes the construction of Suncor’s third oil sands upgrader. [Read more]
Canadian Natural Resources Limited’s Horizon Project is located 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray in the Albert oil sands. Phase 1 start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2008, which will see production of 110,000 barrels of synthetic crude oil (SCO) per day. Future phases will see production of 232,000 barrels of SCO per day, followed in due course by an expansion to 500,000 barrels of SCO per day. [Read more]
